Statutory scheme
The basic rules for childcare centers and host parents in Caribbean Netherlands will be embedded in a Law. The local implementation of the law is established through an Childcare Island Ordinance, taking in to account the island-specific circumstances.
Childcare Island Ordinance
Currently, each island already has an Island Ordinance on Childcare that includes many quality requirements for childcare centers and host parents. There is also a temporary subsidy scheme for childcare to improve quality and reduce costs for parents.

Draft Childcare Law
The proposal for the new law establishes all quality regulations for an extended period. Additionally, the proposal outlines how childcare will be financed in the future. Together, these measures ensure high-quality, safe, and affordable childcare. The structural legislation is expected to be implemented in 2026.
